Michael Long does freelance work in film, video, and theatre. After growing up in Boardman, Ohio, he moved to Philadelphia to go to school. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Film and Video from Drexel University in 2011.

Since graduation, Michael has been doing mostly freelance video work and theatre projection design. He has designed projections for 1812 Productions, Delaware Theatre Company, Luna Theater Company, and Temple University. His designs have been written about by local theatre critics:

Special mention must be made of Michael Long’s creative use of a large upstage screen upon which various scenes relevant to changing settings throughout the play are projected. This technique substituted for actually building three dimensional scene sets, which would have been exceedingly troublesome given the small stage available.” – Ronald Comer, Stage Magazine

Video designer Michael Long’s astonishing projection of a party scene (employing the cutting-edge digital technology of Adobe After Effects) seamlessly depicts each of the actors twice in the same room, simultaneously engaged in different conversations and actions, to underscore once again the play’s underlying theme of identity crisis.” – Debora Miller, Stage Magazine

…Michael Long’s spectacular set design of video projections and stills— among the best utilization of multimedia I’ve seen in Philadelphia (Long could become small theater’s affordable answer to Jorge Cousineau)” – Jim Rutter, Broad Street Review

…electrified by Michael Long’s video design on large screens at either side of the stage.” – Howard Shapiro, Inquirer

Here is a case where projection was used sensibly without overpowering the story.” – Elliot Lanes, Maryland Theatre Guide

His trailer for Luna Theater Company’s production of How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found was also featured in the Philly Fringe Blog.
